The RASCI model is an extended version of the RACI framework, designed to define and clarify roles in projects and processes. It adds an extra role called Support to ensure that the assistance needed for task completion is recognised. This makes it especially valuable in complex projects where collaboration and resource allocation are critical.
While the RACI model has been widely used for decades to clarify responsibilities, many organisations found that it lacked emphasis on supporting roles. The RASCI model was developed to address this gap, highlighting the importance of those who provide resources, tools, and assistance without being directly responsible or accountable.
The RASCI model is used across industries where projects involve many stakeholders. In construction, for example, engineers may be Responsible, the project director Accountable, suppliers providing equipment as Support, consultants offering expertise as Consulted, and investors kept Informed. Similarly, in IT projects, support teams such as system administrators or helpdesk staff are explicitly recognised within the framework.
By explicitly recognising the Support role, RASCI provides a more comprehensive view of project dynamics. It improves resource allocation, strengthens collaboration, and reduces ambiguity in responsibility. This clarity helps prevent delays, ensures better teamwork, and increases the likelihood of successful project delivery.
